Recognising Skills Acquired Through Experience: MEA Highlights Employer Perspective on Validation

Kevin J Borg explained that the employer’s perspective of Validation needed to be viewed in the context of a tight labour market situation which has experienced a dire need of skills for several years whilst participating in a panel discussion entitled “Validation vs Training: Recognising Skills Acquired through Experience” within a national conference organised by the National Skills Council and MCAST.

The Director General said that in this context it was imperative that skills acquired through alternative methods or informally through different experiences are put to good use particularly as these can multiplied and passed on to others if they are adequately validated. Mr Borg also said that non-formal and informal learning experiences has a tendency to render a worker more complete because “learning by doing” often enhances one’s transversal skills particularly in terms of problem-solving and critical thinking.
