Post event Publication: Adapting our Labour Market to an Ageing Population – Comprehensive Analysis and Strategic Framework
The Malta Employers’ Association has been at the forefront of social dialogue for several years, spearheading the conversation on the shifting demographics of the Maltese population and its immediate and long-term effects on the labour market.
Over the past year, the MEA has proactively initiated discussions on low birth rates and the role and impact of foreign workers on key industries. The MEA remains committed to addressing these issues and has now turned its attention to another pressing demographic issue: the ageing population. Like the other topics, the ageing population directly impacts the labour market and its potential productivity.
For this purpose, the MEA has held several focus group meetings with stakeholders to discuss the topic of ‘Adapting our labour market to an Ageing Population’. These meetings aimed to discuss the issue and elicit ways the country may adapt to this demographic challenge. Further details from these meetings may be found in the attached report.
Building upon the feedback received to date, the MEA is organising a National Round Table Forum on the 9th of October, as part of this year’s SMEWEEK MALTA 2024 programme of events. This is a collaborative effort, and we aim to bring as many relevant parties around the discussion table as possible to discuss this multifaceted matter. We encourage you to participate and to bring forth your proposals and ideas, which will then allow the MEA to present a holistic report to the Government of Malta.
